fancy a breakfast walk on the Downs next Friday?

This week was far less busy than last week.

I was tempted to spend all of yesterday in front of my screen seeing how far I could push the latest and greatest LLM while it's cheap.

Instead I went for this bike ride with three fellow software folk:

As well as covering quite a bit of ground in the real world we had some great conversations. Much of it revolved around one of my favourite topics: exploring the future of the internet economy

The four of us had quite different perspectives as:

  • The founder of two profitable software businesses with 20+ years of experience.
  • The head of customer support at a B2B SaaS with over 2,000 customers.
  • An 18 year old working on various impressive projects including creating a new programming language and a new operating system.
  • Me :)

If you'd like to join similar conversations closer to Brighton (and without needing to get on a bike) next week is your opportunity to do that.

Start next Friday 10th July away from your screen with a relaxed breakfast walk on the Downs and get back to your desk by around 11 am for a productive Friday.

The exact start point will be shared the day before and we'll coordinate transport from central Brighton and back if you need it.

This will be our 2nd Stripe Community Brighton gathering. A professional guide will keep us on time and provide breakfast & fresh coffee at an inspiring location. It's free to join thanks to sponsorship from Stripe.

If you can't make next week grab a spot on our August 28th walk - or feel free to sign up to both!

I really hope you can join us. If not, join the community to be the first to find out about other Stripe Community Brighton events.

Hope to see you somewhere away from your home and your screen soon!

PS If you're a current member, past member or prospective member of The Skiff there's even more happening next Friday 10th.

๐ŸŽฅ At lunchtime we'll be recording a short film at The Skiff capturing as many members experiences from over the last two decades as we can.

๐Ÿพ That evening we're having a special gathering at The Skiff from 5pm to celebrate the 20th birthday of the company that started The Skiff (now called The Skiff Ltd) - I can't believe it's been two decades since I started my first company!

Hit reply to let me know if you'd like to come along so I can get enough food and drink for us all.

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff In my last post I talked about how AI is amplifying the isolation of working from home. Now for a few more things to get humans back in your life... This week A/C has been fighting against AI driven isolation. Many members are coming for extra days of coworking at The Skiff to escape the heatwave. Imagine working comfortably in an Air-Conditioned space that's 10 degrees cooler than your home office! (And also has big-screen monitors you can plug your laptop...

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff My work has completely changed in 2026. If you're a software developer like me, or you work for a software company, you're probably experiencing this too. For everyone else with jobs that can be done working from home, I suspect the change is not far away. It feels almost as significant as when I started working from home 20 years ago. Somehow I've avoided writing about it in this newsletter up to now. Partly because it's been exhausting keeping up with what...

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff This Saturday and Sunday are the last two days of The Skiff being transformed into The Imposter Club, venue 20 in the central trail of Brighton Artist Open Houses with 8 artists doing print, illustration, mixed media, digital art, printmaking and more. Such a fantastic open house space! We popped in yesterday and were there for nearly an hour. My kids loved it, are still talking about it and finally think that I work with cool people - Alice DM "i went to a...
