It's a fresh perspective on the web. A way to explore the top one million homepage screenshots. You can zoom, pan and click to navigate.
It's called One Million Screenshots.
There are a surprising number of Sussex based websites among the top one million. For me, browsing around was a little like taking a walk around Brighton and occasionally bumping into someone I know.
Once we started playing with it we couldn't help adding a few more features. When you click on a site you can:
Discover similar sites
See changes over time (9 months of history)
Data for each of the sites is also available via an API
We've seen people use it for research and inspiration but it's mostly been just for fun. That said it's has given us a chance to experiment with a few things we're considering adding to Urlbox's core API.
Let me know which Sussex based websites you can find among them and I'll feature them in my next email.
It turns out none of the coworking spaces I shared last time are in the top 1 million websites. But lets face it, once you've joined one you're going to be spending more time hanging out with members in the real world than reading the website about them.
Last time I shared some unsolicited feedback from one of our newest members. Si Cornwell (from Digitique Ltd) went further in a post on LinkedIn:
"I’ve started using a local cowork space as I’m more productive when I surround myself with other people working. Getting out of the house a couple of times a week when I’m working 100% remotely is good to get some separation between work and home life. If you’re in Brighton then I thoroughly recommend The Skiff, right in the centre of town and close to the station, and always an interesting mix of people from all sorts of businesses and sectors."
You can get those benefits from almost any coworking space you join. But you usually need to try a few different ones to find the one you're most comfortable in.
I've been banging on about the first promotion we've done in ages at The Skiff. We're celebrating 18 years of The Skiff Ltd so we're limiting it to 18 people.
Here's the deal (5 spots left):
If you join this week you can be one of 18 new (or returning) Skiffmates to get £180 of value:
You'll get £120 off your first month of membership.
If you stay for more than one month you'll be able to nominate a current member to get £60 off their next renewal.
Depending on what plan you choose that might mean your membership is completely free of charge for the first month. It brings the cost of all of our memberships below £100 for the first month.
All you have to do to be one of the final 5 new members is use coupon code 18YEARS18NEWSKIFFMATES when you join.
Choose your plan at https://theskiff.org/pricing Let me know if you have any questions about this, or in general about places to work in Brighton.
Have a great week!
Jon
PS This month's Skiff (board) Games Night on Friday 25th is going to be a good one. You don't have to be a member to come. Details here.
Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff There are so many great places to work in Brighton. I recommend you try them all. If I was't happy working from The Skiff (and from my home) top of my list to try would be: https://platf9rm.com/ https://www.projectsclub.co.uk/ https://wrap.space/ https://www.plusxinnovation.com/ https://www.yolkhouse.com/ https://www.freedomworks.space/ https://www.werksgroup.org.uk/ I think they all provide one day free trials - make the most of them! If I've missed one you'd...
Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff This week the first company I started will be 18 years old. Over these 18 years, the company has generated over £2 million in revenue. Despite this, it’s never turned a significant profit or distributed a dividend. On paper, its age might seem like the most impressive thing about it. Financially this is one of many failure modes that businesses fall into. If I'd known what its future was going to look like back in 2006 and understood why I really created it, I...
Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff Just under 100 of us work at The Skiff each week - around 25 per day. It's lovely hanging out with a small group of people you can get to know well. But it's also important we get out of our little bubble from time to time. Just as it would be if we worked in a more conventional office. One way we can expand our local connections is via this newsletter. We'd like to feature more people and companies we don't see regularly. Here are some people featured in...
