Where are Sussex's technical, creative & unconventional folk?

Brighton Dynamic

from The Skiff

Just under 100 of us work at The Skiff each week - around 25 per day.

It's lovely hanging out with a small group of people you can get to know well. But it's also important we get out of our little bubble from time to time. Just as it would be if we worked in a more conventional office.

One way we can expand our local connections is via this newsletter.

We'd like to feature more people and companies we don't see regularly.

Here are some people featured in Brighton Dynamic last year (all members of The Skiff):

And these local companies were profiled in 2023 (all either used by or supported by members of The Skiff):

Over to you. Who else should we include?

If everyone reading this email suggested one company and one person to feature we'd have over 4,000 to include. 😅

Hit reply to let me know your choices,

Jon

PS Yes you are welcome to suggest yourself and/or your own company!

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff "What's a project you're excited about right now?" It's one of the best questions you can ask when you meet someone in almost any context. It beats "So, what do you do?" every time, and you're far more likely to remember the answer. I love asking it when I meet people at The Skiff, at meetups, or at conferences. I’m curious to hear your answer to that question. So...What’s a project you’re working on that you’re excited about? I’ll go first. I’m currently (and...

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff I’ve been reading the updated and expanded edition of one of my favourite books, Deploy Empathy. It’s a practical guide to interviewing customers that I often recommend to clients. Though it’s written for people building software products, its lessons apply to any business. The new edition introduces the Four Forces model from Jobs-to-be-Done theory. It got me thinking about reframing what I've learned from talking to people like you when considering coworking:...

Brighton Dynamic from The Skiff I heard something troubling recently – twice, from two different people. They thought The Skiff had closed, or that we’d changed hands during the pandemic, like other workspaces that didn’t make it. Bonkers, right? The truth is, The Skiff’s in the best shape it’s been in over five years. Honestly, I think it’s better now than when we had a bigger space. We’re actually plotting what version 5.0 of The Skiff might look like. Next year will mark the company’s 20th...
